Enrollment in Plaquemines Parish School District schools decreased from previous year

The only school district in Plaquemines Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 3,819 students in the halls of Plaquemines Parish School District schools, 3.6% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Plaquemines Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 53.8% of them were boys, and 46.2% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 52.7% of the Plaquemines Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Plaquemines Parish School District has a main office in Belle Chasse and is the only school district within Plaquemines Parish.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.

Only 22% of Louisiana’s teachers are Black or Latino, compared to about 48% of the state's K–12 students who identify as either race.
