U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), the ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, expressed his support for the confirmation of Loren Sweatt to serve as a member of the National Mediation Board (NMB). Sweatt's confirmation was the result of a unanimous vote of 21-0 after being reported out of the HELP Committee.

In a statement, Dr. Cassidy highlighted Sweatt's contributions to the HELP Committee's efforts in protecting American workers and ensuring the enforcement of labor laws free from political influence. He stated, “Since 2021, Loren has been a vital part of the HELP Committee’s work to protect American workers and ensure enforcement of our labor laws is free of political influence. She brings decades of professionalism and expertise in labor policy that make her more than qualified for this role, and I wholeheartedly support her confirmation.”

Loren Sweatt's background includes serving as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at the U.S. Department of Labor before joining the HELP Committee staff in March 2021. She also held the position of Senior Policy Advisor at the House Education and the Workforce Committee for 15 years.

Sweatt will be filling the vacancy left by departing Republican NMB member, Gerald W. Fauth, III. The NMB, an independent federal agency, plays a crucial role in facilitating labor relations within the nation’s railroad and airline industries, with its composition limited to three members, no more than two of whom may be of the same political party.
