U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy and Tim Scott have introduced a resolution designating January 21 through January 27, 2024, as National School Choice Week. The senators believe that all children should have the opportunity to succeed in school, regardless of their income or zip code.

According to Senator Cassidy, "School choice provides this opportunity. This National School Choice Week, we celebrate parents' ability to make the best educational decisions for their family." Senator Scott echoed this sentiment, stating, "It is unacceptable that today – in the United States of America – millions of kids who grew up just like I did still lack access to quality education simply because of their zip code. We cannot leave our kids' education and the future of America's children to chance."

The senators are joined in their efforts by several other lawmakers, including U.S. Senators Tom Cotton, Ted Budd, Ron Johnson, Bill Hagerty, Tommy Tuberville, Marsha Blackburn, Kevin Cramer, Rick Scott, Marco Rubio, Thom Tillis, Cindy Hyde-Smith, John Boozman, Jim Risch, Mitt Romney, Katie Britt, Mike Crapo, Mike Braun, Mike Lee, Roger Wicker, Pete Ricketts, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, and Lindsey Graham.

This resolution comes on the heels of Senator Cassidy's introduction of the Educational Choice for Children Act in 2023. This legislation aims to expand education freedom and opportunity for students by providing a charitable donation incentive for individuals and businesses to fund scholarship awards for K-12 public and private education expenses.

The introduction of the National School Choice Week resolution and the Educational Choice for Children Act reflect the senators' commitment to improving the education system and ensuring that every child has access to a quality education.
