Tulane University’s women’s beach volleyball team concluded the Chanticleer Challenge in Conway, South Carolina, with two losses on Saturday. The Green Wave fell 5-0 to No. 4 ranked Cal Poly and narrowly lost 3-2 to host Coastal Carolina, bringing their season record to 6-7.
In the first match of the day against Cal Poly, Tulane faced its highest-ranked opponent so far this season. The Mustangs handed Tulane its first sweep loss of the campaign. Tulane dropped matches in all five flights, including a close contest at the No. 1 pairs where Emma Morris and Katie Hansen pushed their opponents to three sets before falling 15-10 in the final set.
Later in the day, Tulane competed against Coastal Carolina in what was their first true road contest of the season. Molly Trodd and Skylar Ensign secured a win for Tulane at the second flight with scores of 21-11 and 21-12. Avery Burks and Gigi Gallegos also contributed by winning at the fifth flight after three sets. Despite these victories, Coastal Carolina came back to win both the top pair and third flight matches, securing a 3-2 victory over Tulane.
The Green Wave will return home next weekend to host the Bayou Beach Duals at White Sands Volleyball Courts starting Friday, March 13, with scheduled duals against Central Arkansas and UTEP.
