Tulane University’s beach volleyball team ended its participation in the Tiger Beach Challenge at LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium on Saturday by splitting two matches. The Green Wave lost a close 3-2 contest to UAB in the morning before securing a 3-2 win over Southern Miss later in the day. Tulane’s overall record now stands at 5-4 for the season.
Two Tulane pairs remained unbeaten throughout the day’s competition. Molly Trodd and Skylar Ensign, competing in the second flight, won both of their matches in straight sets. Avery Burks and Gigi Gallegos matched this achievement at the fourth flight.
Against UAB, Tulane secured victories only at the second and fourth flights. Trodd and Ensign won their match with scores of 21-9 and 21-14, while Burks and Gallegos took their sets 21-11 and 26-24. UAB claimed wins at the top, third, and fifth flights, including a narrow three-set victory in the third flight where Sam O’Connor and Amirah Ali pushed it to a deciding set but ultimately fell 15-13.
In their match against Southern Miss, Tulane again relied on strong performances from Trodd/Ensign and Burks/Gallegos, who both swept their opponents. McKenzie Cutler and Giorgia Walther also contributed with a straight-set win at the fifth flight. Southern Miss won both the first and third flights without dropping a set.
With these results, Tulane finished the weekend with three wins out of four matches, moving above .500 for the season. The team will next compete at the Chanticleer Challenge hosted by Coastal Carolina on March 6 and 7 in Conway, South Carolina, facing Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Cal Poly, and Coastal Carolina.
