Support is mounting for U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy's Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution aimed at reversing President Biden's worker classification rule, a move that could impact 27 million independent contractors. Speaking on the issue, Dr. Cassidy emphasized the importance of protecting the flexibility and autonomy of independent contractors, stating, "Independent contractors, or freelancers, make their own hours to fit their schedule and decide where and how they want to work." He expressed concerns that the new regulation could undermine the livelihoods of millions of workers by potentially pressuring them into joining unions.

The Biden administration's rule, which recently came into effect, introduces a six-factor test that aims to define who qualifies as an independent contractor. Cassidy criticized the rule for its potential negative impact on legal certainty and flexibility for independent contractors. In a show of support for Cassidy's efforts, 77 organizations have voiced their backing for the CRA resolution.
