Jefferson Parish Household Hazardous Materials Collection Event Rescheduled To Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022

JEFFERSON, LA – The Department of Environmental Affairs; a Keep American Beautiful affiliate and in partnership with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office LASER Division, E3 OMI and the Department of General Service, has rescheduled the Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) event to Saturday, December 17, 2022, to collect from Jefferson Parish residents. The HHM collection will take place in the parking lot of the Alario Center (2000 Segnette Blvd., Westwego, LA 70094) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

As a state and national Keep America Beautiful affiliate, this event is part of the Parish’s continued participation in America Recycles Day. Jefferson Parish is one of over 600 affiliates participating in this national event that promotes recycling awareness, commitment, and action.

Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) are leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive ingredients. Products such as paints, common household cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides that contain potentially hazardous ingredients require special care when you dispose of them.

The improper disposal of HHM can include pouring waste down the drain, on the ground, into storm drains or in some cases, putting it out with the trash. The dangers of such disposal methods might not be immediately obvious, but improper disposal pollutes the environment and may pose a threat to human health.
