Atherton Drive, Hollywood Drive, Farnham Place And West Oakridge Park To Close For Railroad Crossing Replacement

JEFFERSON, LA – Norfolk Southern Railroad will begin the next phase of construction on its Back Belt rail line with the replacement of four Metairie railroad crossings, which will result in the following road closures from Monday, December 5, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. through Friday, December 9, 2022 at 6 p.m., weather permitting:

  • Atherton Drive at the railroad crossing
  • Hollywood Drive at the railroad crossing
  • Farnham Place at the railroad crossing
  • West Oakridge Park at the railroad crossing

Motorists should detour to the nearest open railroad crossings at North Labarre Road and Loumor Avenue or Metairie Road and Frisco Avenue.

The work involves the total replacement of the railroad tracks, as well as the pavement at both crossings. This regular maintenance is performed and funded by Norfolk Southern along its privately owned infrastructure, and is necessary to keep crossings smooth for drivers and tracks safe for trains. The work is being done using pre-fabricated sections of rail to minimize the traffic disruption.

A representative from Norfolk Southern will be available for media interviews on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 every 90 minutes beginning at 7 a.m. To schedule an interview, please contact Norfolk Southern Media Relations Manager Connor Spielmaker at connor.spielmaker@nscorp.com.
