U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican from Louisiana and ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued a statement following the U.S. Senate’s decision against re-nominating Lauren McFerran as Chair of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Cassidy criticized McFerran as an “extreme Biden-Harris nominee” who has led the NLRB in actions perceived as unfavorable to American workers.

Cassidy emphasized that with three weeks remaining for the current Senate Democrat majority, this move appeared to be an attempt to prevent former President Trump from selecting his own nominee. He stated, “This NLRB seat should be filled by President Trump and the new incoming Senate. Not a historically unpopular president and a Senate Democrat Majority that has lost its mandate to govern.”

He expressed satisfaction with the Senate’s rejection of what he described as a partisan effort by Democrats to block Trump’s opportunity to implement his pro-worker agenda. Under McFerran’s leadership, according to Cassidy, the NLRB had been used to benefit Democratic union supporters rather than workers.

In August, Cassidy criticized HELP Committee Chair Bernie Sanders for conducting an off-the-floor Committee vote on McFerran without a public hearing. A request from Cassidy and other Republicans on the HELP Committee for a hearing on her nomination was previously denied by Democrat leaders within HELP.
