Senator Bernie Sanders issued a statement regarding the Trump administration’s decision to terminate once more an Ebola prevention grant to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Having initially canceled the grant, it was later reinstated by Elon Musk in February after acknowledging it was “accidentally canceled.” However, recent reports indicate the grant has been canceled again.

Senator Sanders questioned whether this was “another thoughtless mistake, or a deliberately cruel decision to make people around the world less safe?” He further raised concerns about the management of global health funding, questioning, “Does anyone even know what is going on? Does Elon Musk?”

Recalling the Ebola outbreak that occurred over a decade ago, Sanders highlighted its severe impact, with Americans being hospitalized and over 10,000 deaths worldwide. He stressed, “An unelected billionaire should not be calling the shots on how to keep people healthy and safe.”

Sanders concluded with a call to action, urging that “all global health funding must be immediately restored and sustained.”
