The City of Kenner is preparing for the anticipated relocation of the New Orleans Pelicans’ NBA G League affiliate to the Laketown area. City officials believe this move will help establish Kenner as a regional destination for sports, entertainment, and economic growth.
Mayor Michael J. Glaser expressed support for the development, stating, “This is an exciting moment for Kenner. Bringing professional basketball to Laketown elevates our city in a meaningful way — it drives economic activity, creates new opportunities for local businesses, and strengthens the sense of pride we have in our community. This is exactly the kind of forward-looking investment that helps Kenner grow.”
City leaders expect that hosting an NBA G League team will increase foot traffic and benefit local hotels and restaurants while helping position Laketown as a center for recreation and entertainment. The project aligns with ongoing revitalization efforts in Kenner and supports broader goals of sustainable economic development.
“When we invest in experiences that bring people together, the impact goes far beyond game night,” Mayor Glaser added. “It’s about jobs, visibility, and creating a destination that residents and visitors alike are excited to be part of.”
Councilman Joey LaHatte, who represents District 3 where Laketown is located, commented on the significance of bringing the team to Kenner: “Since Mayor Glaser and I took office, developing something big at the Pontchartrain Center has been a top goal. The Laketown Squadron, G-League Team for the New Orleans Pelicans is a great asset to the City of Kenner and will allow further heightened development our gem, Laketown!”
Final agreements regarding the team’s relocation are still under discussion. The city plans to continue working with partners to ensure that any deal supports long-term community interests.
